Mikołajki: Railway Station
The railway station in Mikołajki, although currently forgotten, was once a place besieged by tourists. Good connection of the line No. 223 Czerwonka-Ełk with other routes meant that getting to the heart of Mazury was not a problem. Unfortunately, from 2009 this station is closed.
The history of the line No. 223 begins in 1872, and the section Mrągowo-Orzysz with the stop in Mikołajki – October 2, 1911. After the war, the entire line was in Poland and went under the care of PKP.
The railway line was operated by Polish and international trains. For example, in 2007, there was a night train “Masuren-Express” from Berlin to Ełk. Despite heavy traffic, on 1 September 2009, passenger train traffic along the Mrągowo-Ełk section was closed down, disconnecting Mikołajki from railway access.
